Roughly 90% of FPI's portfolio is Row Crop Farms, which are planted and harvested annually (corn, soybeans, wheat, rice, cotton), while 10% of its portfolio is Permanent Crop Farms (trees, bushes, or vines are planted and harvested every 10-25 years).

Continue reading ▶︎ Interviews Press All Hoya Hotseat FPI Alex Pettee, CFA Transcript yeah we are a re Trader on the New York Stock Exchange we invest in Farmland all across the United States uh today we own a little over a billion dollars of Farmland spread across 16 or 17 States our Focus has historically been in primary row crop Farmland corn soybeans sweat rice cotton ground biggest single state amongst our Holdings is the state of Illinois um we also do have some investment in specialty crops uh you know like almonds pistachios wine grapes Citrus Etc um although that's always been a somewhat lesser Focus for us um long-term strategy here is fundamentally to capture two streams of um wealth creation for our investors the first stream is of course collecting rents and making an annual distribution in the form of a dividend and the second thing is to capture long-term appreciation the asset class appreciates on average about five or 6% a year so when you hold a piece of property for something in the neighborhood of uh you know 7 to 10 years there's ...
