Alex Pettee, CFA
President and Director of Research & ETFs
A passionate Hoya through and through, Alex Pettee founded Hoya Capital Real Estate, a Connecticut-based registered investment advisor that is working to make real estate investing more accessible to all investors.
Alex's commentary on the US residential and commercial real estate markets has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg TV, CNN, and Forbes, and his commentary on the ETF marketplace has been featured in ETF.com, ETF Trends, Benzinga, Zacks, ETF Express, and ETF Strategy.
A dual-degree holder and two-sport athlete at Georgetown, Alex played baseball and ran track for the Hoyas, studying Finance and Real Estate. Alex is a CFA Charterholder and holds a Series 65 license.
Sheila Pettee, CFA
CEO & Chief Compliance Officer
In addition to being Hoya Capital Real Estate’s CEO & Chief Compliance Officer, Sheila Pettee is also President of Pettee Investors, an independent, privately-held Connecticut corporation that has been an SEC-registered investment adviser since 1989.
Based in Rowayton, Connecticut, Pettee Investors has developed a strong and consistent record of helping clients build, preserve, and manage wealth since its founding. The firm manages more than $200m in separately managed accounts.
Sheila graduated from Rollins College with a B.A. in Business Administration. She is a CFA Charterholder (Chartered Financial Analyst) and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts.
David Auerbach
Chief investment officer
David Auerbach has been in the REIT industry for almost 25 years and was most recently the former managing director of Armada ETF Advisors. He is the publisher of “The Daily REITBeat Newsletter”, a widely-followed industry publication that covers the publicly-traded REIT sector and is also a consultant with IR Concierge, LLC which is focused on corporate access in the REIT industry. David spent time working with World Equity Group in institutional securities trading and in December 2018, he departed Esposito Securities after 6½ years where he helped to build out the REIT/Real Estate platform with institutional investors and Equity REITs plus worked with ETF issuers on seeding, relationship building, and order execution.
Prior to joining Esposito Securities, David spent 11 years at Green Street Advisors as a Vice President of Institutional Trading handling REIT order execution and sales trading on behalf of institutional clients, hedge funds, pension funds, and other investors. Before that, he worked at Financial Marketplace Inc. for 2 years as a retail investment adviser. He has been quoted by Bloomberg, WSJ, Financial Times, REIT.com, and GlobeSt.com among countless other real estate publications and has been a featured guest on such networks as Yahoo Finance, TD Ameritrade and Bloomberg TV.
Tim Pettee
Research Advisor
Tim Pettee is a Research Advisor to Hoya Capital Real Estate. Tim has 40 years of experience in the investment industry, serving as Chief Investment Officer at AIG Sun American Asset Management from 2003 to 2021, overseeing $50 billion in mutual funds and ETFs.
Mr. Pettee has held numerous management, research, and investment positions during his career in the financial services industry, including Executive Vice President and Global Director of Research for Schroder Investment Management, Director of Research with U.S. Trust Company of New York, and Portfolio Manager at Alliance Capital Management. He received a B.A. in Economics from Boston University.
Jonathan Morris
Senior Research Advisor
A seasoned commercial real estate executive with deep expertise in the multifamily, office, and retail industry, Professor Jonathan Morris serves as Hoya Capital’s Senior Research Advisor.
Professor Morris has held senior executive and partner positions for some of the highest quality real estate firms in the country including Boston Properties as Director or Acquisitions, Charles E. Smith (Archstone-Smith) as Director of Acquisitions, and Lerner Enterprises' LMH Realty Group LLC, a private equity platform sponsored and owned by Lerner, Morris & Hillman.
Professor Morris is also an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University where he teaches the masters-level REIT course in the School of Continuing Studies.
